Hello,

We live in NC and have been thinking about getting chickens for 4 years now...no, I am not a slow mover, I am scared!

I really really want to take the plunge before Fall of this year so I need some help.

Most of the reasons for the long decision time is cost of building a safe secure coop and trying to decide what breed to go with.

I know I do not want to raise chicks I want to buy pullets and locally all I can find is Shooks Hatchery to get pullets within driving distance.

I want big brown eggs and friendly chickens.

That is my criteria, any suggestions?

Thank you,
Susan Berry

Where are you located in NC? There's a show at the fairgrounds in Winston Salem this weekend if you are near there. People set up with birds to sell so you may find something there.

Craigslist is another option.

I've gotten chicks from Shook before and had no problems. The pullets he sells as grown are debeaked. I know some people are not aware or okay with that.

Best wishes!
