Hello all I am a newbie here on the forums.

I am currently working on selectively breeding three separate flocks. The first is the Ohio born Buckeye chicken. I currently have about 25 pullets and 12 cockerels. At first I found this breed to be boring and mundane, but as they are approaching maturity they are starting to gain personality.

I also have 2 Rhode Island Red cockerels and 3 Rhode Island Hens. Even though these were purchased from Tractor Supply this spring I am confident that they are heritage breed and not "production reds" as they are even darker than my Buckeyes (which are traditionally a dark red breed).

I also have a pair of beautiful Light Sussex chickens, the male is of the GreenFire Line and the Pullet is from a show winning Canadian Line. The pullet recently hatched 9 chicks that turned out perfectly (no leg feathering, no crooked toes, and solid white legs).

I would love to trade some Light Sussex birds from my stock with yours so that I can increase the genetic pool.

I would also trade a Buckeye pair for another large breed pair of yours.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I would love to see a pic of your RIRs. I hope I'm wrong, but I would be shocked if you got heritage RIRs from a Tractor Supply. Even if your "reds" have very dark red feathering and profuse black tail feathering, coming from a Tractor Supply they are unlikely to have the deep bodies of heritage RIRs. I truly hope I'm wrong on this. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in selectively breeding your flocks.
