This is the more "mature" looking of my girls, they were born the last week of May (near memorial day).

Do you think she's getting close to PoL? I'm SO impatient!

Thank you for looking! :)

I've got an EE that I am waiting impatiently on too! Her comb has started getting redder (and taller) but not super red like the cockerels. And to top it all off my B.I.L got 4 pullets out of the same batch and his started laying Monday! Grrrr! Not that be brags about it or anything...

It all depends on the bird and the breed. Look for the "submissive squat". If you step close to them or try to pet them they will squat and stick their shoulders up. It is a sign of maturity and means they will lay soon. Good luck!

The squat was the best sign for my hens. I think they laid within a week or so of starting to squat.

She ended up laying her first egg on 11/29, after just about a week of squatting :) Just waiting on my other chicken - who is much bigger! - to catch up and start laying for me, too. :)
