I wouldn't rule out a strategically placed covered litter box or similiar option. We have 4 nest boxes in a spacious coop for our 7 girs who are now about 8 months old. After weeks of "floor eggs" we gave up and placed a litter box and an old wooden box under the nests. Every moring I find an egg or two in these non-traditional nests and everyone seems happy...
