Nebraskans Speak Up!!! NEBRASKA ROCKS!!

I’m majoring in poultry science with a concentration in science and pre-vet. I think I want to specialize in nutrition.
What college you at for now. I would have loved to be a vet tech. But I'm not sure it was a thing back in the 70s . I became an X-Ray tech. and ended up being a medical assistant at the end. I loved it, helping people was so much better than diagnostics. But I do love science.

I’m currently at the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture for this year. Next year I’m transferring to Mississippi State University.

Good for you, how do you do school and all those chickens.
The coop with 11 is at my parent’s place right outside of McCook, they care for them during the work week while I kind of manage the birds and care for them on the weekend. While I go to NCTA, I’m living with my grandparents, and I keep and care for the other 26 at their place. Next year I when I go to MSU, I’ll let my parents and grandparents have however many of my chickens they want and sell any they don’t, but for now I’m just enjoying being able to still have them.

Oh okay now I see. What all breeds do you have?

Ok you're going to love this idea. My kids think I should sell my small eggs as"LITE" eggs for 7.50 a dozen! We had a good laugh . Market them as lite or reduced cholesterol, less calorie eggs! Ha ha . Just kidding I live in a rural area ( as you know) and it would never fly

We're right in the middle of Omaha! Newbies with a small coop and four (we hope) pullets. One mix, 2 Marans and 1 Easter Egger.
We are looking to move to omaha in the next year or two and I really want chickens. I am not allowed to have any currently due to hoa. Any tips for finding a place in the city that allows chickens? And were there any restrictions regarding number?

Hi there,

I am looking to start a small chicken flock (4-7) in my backyard and was looking for places to buy chicks in Nebraska. I live in Bellevue, but am willing to drive up to an hour to pick them up (including Western Iowa). I know some are available and Tractor Supply and there are many online ways of ordering eggs, I was just looking for a local option to support. Do you know of any place you can drive to and pick up the chicks in person?

Thanks in advance!

I ordered my girls from Murray Mcmurray but did see some at the local farm store ( Orshelns ) today. You just have a better chance of healthy (vaccinated) chicks to start your flock.
