Dwegz, if you're in So Omaha, you could go to Plattsmouth Bomggards. They will order a small number and add your list to others until they get a full order. Don't wait as they will quite ordering soon.

Bomgaars in Council Bluffs has a steady supply of chicks and they get 50 of each when they order. They are by the KMart one exit past the Mall off I-80 (iowa western exit). Go in and look at the list of what breeds they will be getting and it will also tell you the date to expect them. They get a lot more than the Plattsmouth store.

The auction was great!!

I finally met HorseJody and thndrdancr, and sold some birds too.

I ended up with 2 Yellow Golden Pheasants, 3 Red Golden Pheasants, and a pair of Valley Quail.


HorseJody: The guy I was looking for was kind of a jerk, but another lady was nice enough to sell me a pair of the quail...

I think I ran into the same jerk.

Were those two brown hen ducks yours toward the end? Those were so pretty. I bid on them but they didnt see my arm. I missed several things that way, I guess I am invisible.
I should have made noise. Cant believe they were SO nice and only went for three dollars. Whoever got them positively stole them.

I wanted bobwhite quail but didnt see any, or are "valley" quail the same thing?

I cant believe that one man bought so much, he had his pickup and his trailer totally stacked two to three high. And he bought baskets of roosters too, now what is he gonna DO with all those birds. He must have had 120 or more cages stacked. He put the baby ducks right on top in the open back of his pickup tho, cant imagine they were in too good of shape when he got home.

I told him they were going to get toocold, and he huffed and walked off. I think he thought I was going to steal his stuff or something. I was standing around waiting for my sis to bring the truck, my peacocks didnt fit into the Nissan!

The neighbor had to go to a funeral so I was going to try to get some for her, but I knew that I had to get in that stupid line to check out, or I wouldn't have made it home in time to take ddil out for her birthday.
 
Jody, you should have asked me if I was going to stay and would I mind bidding if it went under whatever price you were buying for.

Altho I was a little ticked that I missed three dif things just mainly becuz they didnt see me. Well you probably saw the first ones to begin with...the guy just wasnt looking that far to the right at first. I am sure you saw one of them at least since you were right behind me. Grrrrr

Once he noticed I was actually bidding he looked my way often, but the first two items, the egg cartons were one and hatching eggs another. Those didnt bother me as much as the ducks, man that sucked. So pretty. Sis says she will yell "Hey" like the auctioneer guys do.

I havent been to too many so I dont know etiquette, but was ready to toss niceties right out the window.

I think those duckling are the ones the guy put on the back of his open truck at 8:45 in the evening on the VERY top with NO shelter whatsoever. I just didnt get it, he had a 3/4 ton pickup, he could have at least put the babies in the back. Even if he wasnt going far, I am sure they got very chilled. I wouldnt do it to even my grown chicken, but I baby mine to death, with the air getting chill at night. I was ready to repack them for him, he had a nice lil spot down in the middle that would have at least been sheltered from the wind, if he would have only bothered.

That's what we do. You might have heard my friends and I yell out a few times. That's a shame about the ducklings. If they just ran the check out office better, they would have a better auction. I don't blame that guy that got mad and threw the halters and lead ropes back into the ring. The auctioneer shouldn't expect people to wait hours for them to be able to pay for their stuff.
 
Yea, I was surprised as well that folks had to wait SO long. I have only been to the last two, and either it wasnt that way those times, or I just happened to leave at a good time.

Yea, the guy holding the ducks saw me right before the auctioneer said sold on the ducks, he even mouthed "sorry". So he realized. He even yelled "yeah" but it was like actual seconds before the auctioneer said SOLD.

I ended up with 4 peas, only two girls tho. And one, the older girl got out of the pen as we got home, but my freerange boys that I raised from itty bitty chicks are out there romancing the heck out of her, so I hope she sticks around. I dont imagine they will wander too far from here, they know they have it good.
