Hi everyone! I'm Denise. I'm not technically in Omaha, but may as well be.

If anyone sees the CL ad for the 2 leghorns, they're our hens. They are great girls, but very nervous girls. And since the chickens are not just mine, but also my 5 y/o's we need hens that tolerate life with kids and noisy dogs. These girls don't. They have some feather damage...tail feathers are broken from an over zealous roo, and both have recently molted according to the previous owner. They're about 18 months. Healthy birds, and sweet, just skittish. I put them on CL at $10 for the pair, but if a BYCer wants them, PM me and you can have them...I just want them to have a good home!

Also...best breeds for kids? We'll be left with one rir and one leghorn (my girl...she's my buddy!). We'd like to have 4 birds. I've heard good about BO, and EE. Any others?

Hello Huskers! I am in the Papillion area. Does anyone know of any other feedmills in the area other than the one in papillion? What are you feeding your layers? I am not a big fan of commercial stuff purchased at TSC etc. I want to be able to mix from a grain mill and supplment with Oyster Shell, table scraps, and free range etc. What is your "cheap feed secret"????

Anyone have a silkie they want to sell???

Thanks guys!

So my favorite chicken of all time is the barred rock...she actually is so tame that she flies up to my shoulder and sits on my lap. They are supposed to be a very gentle breed, and excellent egg layers.

I very rarly get chickens from others unless theyare young, b/c I have 3 small kids and I with you need them tame. That being said, I do have a Columbian Wyandotte Roo that needs a new home, as he isn't tame and my kids are always trying to pick him up. He isn't dangerous, just not tame. If you want him please let me know and you can have him, but the kids want him to go to a good home. (Don't tell them if he is your sunday meal). -Although I have to tell you, he is far to beautiful to be dinner, maybe one of you would like him to breed? He is from a hatchery and a year+ old.

I am so glad to see so many Huskers on here!!!!

Thanks to everyone trying to help me find a silkie roo. Bfcerney I may want to hatch some silkie eggs. I don't know how soon. As far as "cheap feed" is concerned, I have built a composting bucket for black soldier flies. I also have a red worm bin so my chickies have worms all year. Not many people have an "appreciation" for my critter bins, but they help out alot with the feed bill!!!
