I have a 1 1/2 week old silkie bantam. Three days ago I noticed it turning it's head sideways. Over the last few days it has gotten worse and now it is holding it's head down and doing circles. I assume it's neck is injured or broken. It lives with 20 other chicks the same size and age and they are all fine. Is there anything I can do to save the chick? I'm heart broken.

Thank you. I was reading the info and it does sound like what this chick is going through. I'm going to try and find the medicine tomorrow and hope that it's not too late.

I hope it works for you it is hard when the chickens die, even more so when you get attached. Good luck!

Out of all of the chicks this was my favorite. I should have acted quicker. This is my first time keeping chickens and although I did a lot of research prior to buying them apparently I did not do enough.

Thanks for the support.

Thank you so much for your advice! The chick looked like it had gotten worse during the night and this morning I called all of the surrounding vets. There was only 1 that treated chickens and he suggested the chick be put to sleep. I told my neighbor the type of medication I needed for the chick and she told me it was prescribed for humans as well. Luckily I found some Prednisolone (sp?) 15 mg that was left over from my 5 year old son's prescription. After giving the chick the medication and vitamins around 3:00 it seems to be better. It can walk for longer periods of time without it's head being tucked under it's body and has eaten and drank by itself. I am hopeful that the chick will continue to improve and will hang in there.
