Hi everyone,
I am a first time chicken owner with a small flock of 8 very light colored Buff's, all hens and all sisters. They are 10 and a half weeks old (their birthday is March 18).
One is a little bigger than the others, and she knows it. She's not a bully but she's definitely going to establish herself as the "Queen B" around these parts.
When I let my chickens out of their coup and pen area to eat the bugs and pick grass, this one chicken always does something strange: If the other chickens walk out before her, she takes a big galloping leap right through the middle of the crowd, wings flapping, and then suddenly targets one of her sisters and puffs her neck up, feathers splayed out, and does this weird "head roll"...
I don't know how to accurately describe it, other than how my husband put it: "It's like she's getting up in their face saying, 'Nuh uh, no you DI-INT!'"
Just wondering if this is acceptable behavior or not. She's not tried to hurt the smaller ones yet, or peck at us, but she definitely dominates everyone and everything.
