Necropsies

we had a total of 5 out of 24 chicks get sick.
we opted to euthanize the 3 worst and do necropsies.
(If I'm lucky we may have preliminary lab results today)
we decided to give the 2 less affected chicks a chance.
they are eating well and growing in their own brooder and I think would like to be back with the rest of the brood -- but until I know exactly what we were dealing with I'm waiting - they are not small, they are growing well.
I'm not sure I will even be able to tell who my sick chicks were, they pretty much look back to normal and are back to doing normal chick things.
maybe I will notice more wen they are all in a group? but my sick chicks are now standing to eat etc.
btw our chicks were hatched on 2-23

Crap, darn and many other things.

You can add me to the list of "issues" with MM chicks delivered on 03/03. I split an order of 25 with some one, between us we have lost 5 and 3 are still sick (isolated from the others). They had or have the EXACT same symptoms listed here.

Breeds affected, Polish, Cochin and Araucana.

I am still nursing along two of the sick babies. I lost one yesterday but the other two seem to be improving. I am doing all this for a friend who we shared the order with. I kept the sick ones and the daughter took the healthy ones, along with my finches (to keep from risking their health). So if they make it I will send them to live with friend. I hope they make it, but it will be hard to give them up. They are still vibrating (tremors) and stumble, but they can walk some without falling now. They have become so sweet, like anything handraised.
Oh, well, this has been a trying experience. Glad there were others to share the woes and misery with. Wait, that came out wrong. I HATE that this happened to the babies, but at least we have had each other to compare and comiserate with.

I have contacted my state Ag office and they don't have the means to test for this, it is a specialized test, they have to send out to California. First I have to get a vet to do a blood draw on the still surviving chicks and the only one locally is out for spring break until the 31st.

I guess I will just have to wait see if these make it until then.
