Necropsy Graphic Pictures

Intestines. Looked clean and smooth. No sign of irritation or worms. Some areas had poop but some where clean and empty (due to starvation?)

I am not an expert on chickens at all, but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. :lau No, no I didn’t.

All jokes aside, I have necropsied several birds and there are a few things so far that don’t look normal to me. First off, the coloring of her intestines are extremely dark. I don’t remember any of mine being the blackish gray color. However, I don’t know why that would be.

Another thing I noticed was a light yellow object on the bottom right of the picture showing the yolks (look normal). This is also the first pic where I saw the dark intestines.

I have no idea what the clear bubble is. The shell gland is actually inside the oviduct and not a separate organ. You would not have necessarily recognized it I don’t think.

Yes, that is the gizzard and I can’t tell what the little red thing is.

The last pic is her oviduct, a long tube like organ.

Maybe you were showing the little bubble like thing instead of the red piece. Still not sure what it is even though I can see the dark green of the gall bladder beside it.

I wonder if the darkness of the intestines could be a sign of necrotic tissue? I’m just not sure.

The sick birds I’ve opened have had definite problems that jumped out at me once their cavity was opened. All sorts of reproductive tumors and liver tumors, which I don’t see in your girl.

The fat has been in most of mine too, sick and healthy birds.

Last picture. Her wing feathers.

I didn’t mention before: Petunia was a light Brahma. She never previously showed any illness to this situation.

I’m at a loss as to what happened. It makes me worried about the other hens because I don’t know what I’m looking for.

I am puzzled with the darkness of the intestines. Also her gizzard contents look strange. They are somewhat oily looking. Mine have always been very dry and gritty. (No pun intended.)

Had she been eating and pooping normally?

The dark red organ in the pic is her liver. You will only see the lungs after all other innards are removed. Keep going.
Wait. The large red organ that looks to be 2 mirror images on either side of the midline is the liver? So which pic shows the lungs?
