Necropsy

So one of my white leghorn hens went and died on me. The rest of the flock seems fine. I noticed some green poop in the vent. Did not seem obstructed. I went to the store to buy some antibiotics and anti worm meds but it died by the time I got back. I did a cursory check and did not notice any trauma. Of note I have two other white leghorns and they do seem thinner than my other fat hens. I am wondering if there is a weakness in the breed. So, anyway I want to cut the bird open to see what I can find. Any tips on what to look for and how to determine the cause of death?

White Leghorns are smaller/thinner than most laying hens so comparing body size is not really a good way to go.

If you will take photos during the necropsy process, we may be able to help you i.d. a few things. I usually look in the abdomen, major organs and reproductive system. The manual below may help you as well.

@cpagego how old was your Leghorn? Very sorry for your loss. White Leghorns are a very high production breed and prone to reproductive disorders. I would focus attention on her reproductive system. Kudos to you for doing your own necropsy and posting pictures here for others to learn from.
