Need a chicken

I am new to this site. We had a Rhode island red that escaped our chicken coop. It is my daughters pet. We hope to get it back but if we can not we have someone will let use buy a chicken. She is currently roaming around our back yard. No idea how to catch her.
 
If she has been with you long, she should return to the coop in the evening. Otherwise, Scratch, melon rind, or a morsel of fish should lure her back into the run. Food is the way to a chicken's heart.

Even if you do catch her, you should get her some company. Nothing worse than a lonesome chicken.

X2, if she is used to sleeping in the coop then there is really no worry as chickens always return to the same place to sleep each night. But if she can't figure it out then you'll have to use some treats or try and herd her.

She should return at night to the coop. Just leave the pop door open at dusk and when you know she is in, lock the door behind her. Don't try to chase her right now. Put out some food and water nearby so she can come for a drink and food. Good luck and I hope you can catch her soon!
 
Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! X4, she should go back to the coop at night, or lock the rest up and try to lure her in the run with treats.. if she does not go in, watch and see if you can find where she is sleeping tonight and catch her in the dark.
 
Welcome to BYC! Sorry your RIR escaped your coop. The other BYC members have given you some good advice. Good luck in retrieving her.
 
Birds don't like to move when it's dark - if she doesn't go back to the coop at dusk, she may roost in a tree. You could try finding her with a flashlight. Do you have some kind of net you could throw over her?
