Need a good guard dog that wont eat my poultry!

How do you find such a wonder dog, going in? Is there a doggie e-harmony.com?

It is either luck of the draw or Labs just are really tuned in to our desires, I don't know...but I've been lucky three different times. I just refuse to take home a dumb dog....you can tell their level of intelligence by how they react to you, how much they watch you for cues, how receptive they are to the tone of your voice.

My younger Lab/BC mix is hyper with a capital H and I don't think this will change....but this makes for a very energetic, muscular animal that is quick as lightning and ever vigilant. He definitely would benefit from being worked hard on a big farm each day, but he tends to make his own fun here. I have no moles, no coons, no groundhogs, no buzzards or crows.....he sees all, hears all.

The key to any dog is training! I think a hunting dog, if trained correctly should be great for they are trained not to kill the bird! I have a Heeler which is a working cattledog, so their instinct is to herd which is helpful for putting up at nite, but once again any dog must be trained! My Heeler, Rea, always goes in with the guineas while I do water and feed in the winter and I show her the tiny chicks. She always wears a shock collar for working cattle, so therefore any negative behavior with the guineas is easily corrected and she thinks the guineas shocked her....works great. ONCE AGAIN THE KEY TO ANY GOOD DOG IS GOOD TRAINING BY IT'S MASTER....YOU HAVE TO BE IN CHARGE , NOT THE DOG...Good Luck
