guinea fowl are good, if raised with what they are to guard. They get a bit aggressive as protectors, though.

We have chickens, ducks, guineas, geese and turkeys none of which do any protecting or discouraging of predators.
Dogs work well for us but aren't full proof either.

Nothing is totally fool proof...But a Great Pyrenees is as good of protection you can get for land based predators. They need some "Chicks Are Friends, Not Food" training. Funny, on the Great Pyr rescue facebook page, they alternatively state "Good With Chickens," "Can't be kept with Chickens."

Neat dogs that are gentle as can be with humans, but aren't great listeners, basically bred to be independent and protect the flock from wolves...There's a youtube of one killing a Coyote...Shakes it like a rat and that's all she wrote.

My brother has one. On vacation, the cabin three doors down had three families with a bunch of little kids. We'd find him sitting by them, 50 yards away on a rise, watching all the kids on the beach; he finds a herd one way or another.

My three big dogs ( Cane Corso, Neapolitan Mastiff and Akita cross) are indispensable though they needed training as pups. A gun. Making the chicken coop like Ft. Knox. Predators are still persistent. Sigh.

Actually, I was thinking about this! But we don't have anything set up for shelter for anything large like that. :-(
