It's split down the middle, & Buttercup occasionally is fused at the back. That's not a buttercup comb. Just a goofy rose comb. Even has the spike.
I understand what you're saying but it's still a rose combIt's split down the middle, & Buttercup occasionally is fused at the back.
There must be some Duplex gene influence creating the split, if that makes sense.I understand what you're saying but it's still a rose combThe split is pretty normal to some extent. My RC RIRs all had it, it was less pronounced in the hens but here's some pictures of the rooster. This chick will grow up and look similar. These birds will look a bit different than the neat rose combs such as the ones found in Rosecomb bantams

Agree. The Dominique and this circled one are definitely cockerels. Individual pictures of the other lavender birds are neededView attachment 2703299
Here's an article https://www.diva-portal.org/smash/get/diva2:845131/FULLTEXT01.pdf Sounds to me like there's just a lot of phenotypic plasticity and they haven't isolated the modifiers yet. There's just a lot of variety in rose combs. It doesn't sound to me like the duplex gene is causing this but it sounds like there's a lot of research neededThere must be some Duplex gene influence creating the split, if that makes sense.
