I'm undecided and need to plan a bit more. I like the walk in idea but I may be limited to the raised option. The size and space of the coop matters.
Each chicken needs at least 4sq ft of coop space, 10sq ft of run space, 1 linear ft of roost, and 1sq ft of permanent ventilation. Also 1 nesting box per 3-4 hens, so you really would only need 1 or 2.
Do you want a raised or walk in coop?
Whatever you decide a 4x4 coop and a 10x4 or 8x5 run would work.I'm undecided and need to plan a bit more. I like the walk in idea but I may be limited to the raised option.
It looks like I'm going to have an 8'x8' area to work with. For 3 chickens, if I go 5x8 for the run, can I make a 3x8 space work fir the coop and all of its requirements? Thanks.Whatever you decide a 4x4 coop and a 10x4 or 8x5 run would work.
So a 5x8 run and a 3x8 coop? That will definitely work for 3. The coop could technically fit 6 and the run 4, but more space the better! Also for chicken math.It looks like I'm goung

Perfect. A little extra run space and room to add another if the needs another pet. Thanks a ton.So a 5x8 run and a 3x8 coop? That will definitely work for 3. The coop could technically fit 6 and the run 4, but more space the better! Also for chicken math.
Also if you have a raised coop you can have space underneath it that counts as run space. Just make sure to raise the coop up enough, at least 2 ft incase you need to get under.
I also like this idea as the coop will provide a shady spot in the run area.Perfect. A little extra run space and room to add another if the needs another pet. Thanks a ton.
