just a few hours ago one of our goats dropped her baby in our old barn..unfortunatly we had to take the baby because the mother rejected it (would not feed it, left it alone and in danger, and head butted it). so now this baby is living in my room in a dog crate (along with 5 silkie chicks in a rubermaid tote) and she needs a name :) Its a female and solid white

Congratulations on your new baby. I don't have a suggestion for a name, but I do have some suggestions on what to feed it. If you do not have goat milk available, baby goats do a LOT better on whole cow milk from the store than they do on any milk replacer you can buy.

I'll post a pic after I've cleaned her up shes been resting so I dont want to disturb her just yet....cassie I've seen that on other websites to but do you know why? my brother is convinced that goat milk replacer is what we should give her. she did get colostrum from her mother though

A lot of the cheaper formulas (due to the soy), or ones for all species can cause scours and bloat. We raised our alpine and nubian babies on whole milk, with a little plain yogurt and nutri-drench 2x a day. They are now gorgeous, healthy, spoiled rotten, 5 month old teenage goaties.

So, whole milk worked well for us, but I know people who have raised all their goats on high-quality formula and all of their babies are healthy. My sister's 4-H leader raises hers on a mixture of raw goat milk and high-quality formula. I have heard the argument that whole milk doesn't have all the nutrients too, but a lot of people use it without issue. Also, cow's milk will almost always be more cost-effective than a good formula. It's up to you, but from what I gather, formula is fine as long as it is good quality and made specifically for goats. Good luck with your cutie!

BTW, our white cat is named Casper, and our goats our Heidi, Shasta, and Rachel. I also thought the name Cloe was cute. That's just the names I have used. : )
