Need a name for a newborn baby goat!

I'll post a pic after I've cleaned her up shes been resting so I dont want to disturb her just yet....cassie I've seen that on other websites to but do you know why? my brother is convinced that goat milk replacer is what we should give her. she did get colostrum from her mother though
I used to have a commercial goat dairy. I have raised many hundreds of kids. I have many friends and acquaintances that have raised many hundreds more. At one time or another we have used every milk replacer out there. Baby goats blow up and die on milk replacers, and that includes even the expensive ones formulated especially for kids. Some kids tolerate replacers just fine, others don't, and you can't predict which can and which can't. Also a kid can eat replacer for several days or weeks, and then for some reason one day bloat on it and die. The only reason to ever use replacer to raise kids is for econonomic reasons. It certainly isn't because it is better for them. If you are raising a lot of kids, replacer is usually cheaper than milk, but that isn't an issue if you are just raising one or two kids. And sometimes those kid replacers are more expensive than store milk. Actually, I have found kids do just as well on the premium calf replacers as they do on those expensive kid replacers. Other breeders I have talked to have said the same thing.

If you don't want to feed straight cow milk, there is a formula that works very well for kids. This was formulated by a breeder for Boer kids and kids from mini goats like pygmies and Nigerians whose mother's milk is richer than the milk the standard dairy goat produces. Take a gallon jug of whole cow milk from the store. Pour off about a quart. Add one can evaporated milk and one cup buttermilk to the jug. Add enough of the milk you poured off back into the jug to fill it and shake well. Kids do very well on this.

If you insist on feeding milk replacer, make sure the kid is vaccinated for enterotoxemia and that you have a supply of GasX on hand. I haven't found anything that works better than GasX for bloat on goats of all ages. In fact, all goat owners should have enterotoxemia antitoxin (Clostridium perfingens) and GasX on hand at all times. Entero and bloat are both true emergencies. They strike without warning and immediate treatment is necessary to save the animal's life.

Any pictures???

I love the name Luna, and I would also love to see pictures. I'm beginning to consider goats as a future addition to my life. I hope all goes well for your little one!
