I live in an area with lots of coyotes, etc. Does anyone have a coop they recommend? I may be interested in purchasing one used if someone has one for sale. Just needs to be small--no more than 4 chickens! I am new to this. I live in Illinois

You can always check you local craigslist. Or do a search for "sheds" locally on google, many companies that build sheds build coops as well. There's also www.mypetchicken.com they sell coops, kinda pricey though. There's the coop section right here on BYC with great ideas and instructions on building them if your handy. Also, check the links section here on BYC and there several places that build and ship coops to you. Hope this helps! Good luck!

If you're handy and interested in building your own (which is always cheaper based on quality), check out the small coop section in the Coop Designs tab along the very top of the screen. There are many "all inclusive" designs that look very secure. You'll want something at least 4 x 4 (16 sq. ft) for the housing and 40 sq. ft. for the run (maybe a 4 x 10 or a 6 x 8???). And if you buy on-line or through CL rather than build, don't go by how many chickens they advertise a coop will hold, go by measurements. Exaggeration is a big marketing technique when it comes to chicken coops.

ETA - Oh...and I forgot to tell you that there is a section just for "wanted to buy." Look in the index. And be sure to put your area/state.
