one of our 6 week old pekins is having issues getting around. her tail end appears to be turned to the left, her left wing drops off to the left when she tries to walk, and she has a significant limp (left leg) there are no other signs of trauma. she is still eating and drinking but not with the zest as the others. she has to "stumble" over, lay down, eat, get up, go drink, then repeat. none of the others are showing any signs of illness. any home remedies or thoughts as a vet trip is out of the question.

mine started off doing the same thing. Are you adding niacin to their feed? What feed do you have them on? Mine ended up dying because I didnt catch it soon enough and it went into neurological problems.

thanks for the replys, we are feeding purina flock raiser. we have all of the ducks on it (highly recommended from the gal at the co op) we're heading into town and will pick up some niacin what exactly are we lookin for? also i"ve read somewhere about "polyvisol" do we do that as well? we've got 7 mature pekins, 5 that are about 6 weeks old, and 14 that we just hatched last week, do they all need a boost of this treatment?

They are TOO YOUNG for flock raiser, PLUS it doesn't have enough niacin. Your informer needs to brush up on facts.

Get game bird starter crumbles. It has all the niacin they need. When they get to be 5 or so months old, then switch to game bird grower pellets. It too has all the niacin needed.

thanks again for the quick reply. on the flockraiser lable it says to use as a sole ration from hatch to market, but i'll take your experience to heart. in the meantime do we proceed with the niacin and polyvisol boost and hope it'll pull the lame one through?

For niacin boost, I sprinkle some nutritional yeast in with their feed. I find it at food stores where they carry the wheat, whole oats, etc such as Fred Meyer. Good Luck!

thanks so much, we're headin out, so we'll see what happens. hopefully we'll be able to pull this lil' gal through. all we can do is all that we can do.
