Hello,
I am new to his community and to mourning doves but I love them! Several pairs have been nesting and hatching in my backyard this summer, on eaves and in trees. I leave them alone And watch from a distance. Here's where I need your advice: Recently I was walking through my shrubs to water my plants, and 4 doves flew up from amongst the grasses. I observed 2 were chicks and 2 were likely the parents. Since then, the 2 chicks have been seen on the ground, together, and walking around various parts of my garden, usually in the shaded areas. I have not been able to see any nests on the ground. I have not seen their parents either. I have seen them fly. They look healthy though this morning their crop didn't look full. I left a shallow plate of water near where they hang around .
Should I continue to leave them alone? Why aren't they flying off? Is there anything I shiuld do? It has been 2 days since I inadvertently disturbed the 4 of them from the shrubs.
Thanks for any advice,
