Need advice on converting shed to coop

Using the same roosting bar materials, you could hang the roost bars vertically from the rafters they are already attached too. Like a fixed swing. You could make two or three rows of them all the same height and back them up against the side wall. Or, if you want them to have more space, the rear wall. You’ll just need to install some blocks between the rafters for nailers if you put parallel to the rear wall.
I just built one like this right in the middle of my shed mainly to make my roost raccoon proof, as I have some raccoons sniffing around the incomplete coop.

If I moved them to the back wall, then the birds would have more room to land when they come careening down.
Agrees... if the 'back wall' is the wall to the left of it's present location in that view.
Not fond of ladder roosts myself.

This was super helpful and I appreciate the artistry of it. I was in the last class in our school system that taught drafting.
Glad to help, and Thanks.
Funny...in my HS, girls in the drafting class was frowned upon(by the older instructor),
so I took welding instead(younger much hipper instructor).
Learned board drafting, computers, and CADD in CC...
...then made my living at it for 20 years.

I’m not sure how I screwed up my above post by attaching it all in a quote. Sorry.
Your text got put between the 2 [ quote ] containers......you can edit and fix.[/quote]

Thanks everyone!

I wasn't planning on a ladder roost, but the nesting boxes are up high so we can easily get the eggs out from outside. So the roosts need to be higher...and I was worried our girls wouldn't be motivated enough to fly all the way up the 50" high bar in one go.

Coop complete!! Thanks to everyone for your help. There was a lot of barn rehabbing involved as well, so it took longer than expected.

We just moved the birds in tonight, I placed them on the lower roost bar when it got dark, and they hopped up to the higher roost pretty much right away, which made me more confident that they will be okay in this space.

Added a small outside run today, it will do until we can get the larger space set up. Two-foot apron of 1/2" hardware cloth on the run, fastened with staples and sandwiched/screwed between boards.
