Need advice on coop for our location

Quote:
we got our copy of "Coops For Dummies" on amazon, and it's been really helpful, especially since we are construction challenged. also this is the best website ever for offering help and advice! good luck!

People always suggest it on other threads but somehow unless I've read too quickly it seems to have fallen thru the cracks on this thread ---

Get a secondhand shed (preferably NOT metal) and convert it. (Well, or buy one at full retail if you want to stimulate the economy

and want to have more choice)

This is BY FAR the fastest way to get a good coop, and is perfectly suitable for someone with "zip zero nada" carpentry skills, really it is

For six chickens I wouldn't go smaller than 4x6 and bigger would be better if room and budget allow.

Actually if you are tight on room but not super-tight on budget, and want something spiffy-looking, you might consider some of the really cute commercially-made playhouses on the market. Some (not all) of them convert pretty well for coops. You end up paying a lot more per square foot than if you used a shed, though, and most are not adult walk-in height so you'd better have a good back <g>

Good luck, have fun,

Pat
