Hi, I have been reading post on here for months about hatching eggs and thought I was ready but now that I have gotten my bator ready and my eggs set last night I have already made a mistake. I forgot to add water for moisture. It seems now that I am the one hatching and not just reading about it that I have forgotten everything and would love to read anyone's advice that yall might want to give me. Right now I have 6 bantam eggs from a friend that might have been too old when she gave them to me and 23 eggs I collected from my hens in the past 2 days. I have room for 12 more eggs and also would like to know if it is a bad idea to add these eggs now or just wait till next time to fill the whole bator up.
Also my rooster has only been with my hens for about 2-3 weeks. Is this enough time for the eggs to be fertile?

Thanks in advance for anyone's help!

if you can put those extra 12 eggs in there tonight. it will not hurt one bit. your roo should have had plenty of time to be doing his job. just candle them in 8 days to see what is going on. if those egg are too old they will not start growing. but i have seen eggs 2 weeks old do fine. just luck of the draw.

You might find this a good refresher on incubation. If you find you have done something different, don't sweat it too much. These are guidelines, not hard and fast rules. People violate some of these and still have successful hatches. If you follow these guidelines, your odds increase but treat this as a learning experience.

I am reading the info on the link now but wanted to say I went ahead and added the last 12 eggs almost 24 hours after the first 29. Every one of my eggs if hatched will be of a mixed breed mutt that will prolly either be eaten (roosters) or kept here for eggs so I told myself this first time will to be to work out all the kinks and to learn for when I actually pay for full bred birds. Just hate to waste any egg and future chick. Thats why I am really thankful for everyone's advice.
