need advice re. muddy run

I just rake up the yuk straw into piles and throw some scratch and let them rework it. I also add more on occasion. I plan to take out a little at a time and just keep adding more straw. i have a garden. I epxect you could add more soil and sand and let them mix things well. I figure taking a little out and adding new keeps the process going.

plants work really well for me, get some hardy ornamental grasses and evergreens, stuff that the chickens won't eat and plant them throughout the pen. it works pretty goo for me. sorry if somebody already said this.

I never thought of planting inside the run. I did have plans to plant large ornamental grasses inn the yard so they have a place of shade. The yard has the leach field so it's hard to plant anything that won't clash with the septic system. You've got to let me know what will work.
I also plan to plant beans oustside the run so they will cover the sides for shelter in the winter.
