First, do you happen to have a postal scale accurate to 0.1 ounce?
Not all terramycins are created the same. The average one on the market is a 10 grams per package (usually 4 ounces) strength. Somehow, you've gotten 102.4 grams per package - a very strong solution probably meant for large poultry houses and solution distribution.
That's exactly why I always say to go by the package, not by heresay dosages, and definitely not by feedstore staff recommendations. Always the package. This is not your fault. But I'd darn sure correct the person who recommended you the 1 teaspoon per gallon for this strength. That way they don't recommend it to someone else.
Incidentally, the dosage you have been told is for the 10 gram package, not the 102.4 gram package which is nearly 10 times the strength of the other! Using my calculations below, you'd use something like 0.04 ounces of YOUR powder to a gallon of water. 0.04 ounces is something like 0.007 teaspoons much less tablespoons. (one ounce = 6 teaspoons = 2 tablespoons)
Is there any way you can return it and get the lower strength? Or duramycin 10g/package for example? Terramycin has actually been discontinued (by many) and Duramycin is the product being used in its stead.
If you still want to use this, the dosage calculations are as follows:
http://www.drugs.com/vet/terramycin-soluble-powder.html is the same strength, double the package size. We just halved the package.
OK if you're going to treat with the 400-800 mg/gal dose (the higher recommended dosages):
So for 102.4 grams per 4.78 ounces = 102.4g/4.78oz
and
1g = 1000 mg so
102400 mg / 4.78 ounces
102400mg/800mg per dose = 128 doses at 800mg each per package
102400mg /500mg per dose = 205 doses at 500 mg each per package
4.78 ounces / 128 doses = 0.04 dry ounces per dose at 800mg strength used in one gallon. aka 0.006 teaspoons per gallon of water.
