Chicks zip the eggs just fine, but can't tare through the egg lining. I left them in the egg for 15 hours after they broke the shell all the way around and then I helped them out. The chicks are doing great now. I had the humidity 45% to 50% up until day 18 and raised it to 65%+ the last few days. The eggs are Black Copper Marans. It looks like the lining is real tough.

TOugh membrane or was it dried out?

I had that problem with my last hatch, I'll up my humidity next time and see if that helps.

The membrane was white when the chicks first piped the egg, but after time it turned sort of opaque. I had 4 fertile eggs and had three hatch with my help. I will raise the humidity 55% or 60% next time.

I agree I had the same problem. To dry ! I know we don't want to drown them but I had to help 2 of my 7 as well. Membrane was very dry !

I hatched 7 out of 11.

I had temp at 100 and hum 50 for 18 days.
Then 65 after that. I think next time I will go with hum 60 and then 75 for last days.

It looks like I will loose one of them as he won't stand or walk. Just lays on side and kicks and chirps. Poor thing !

I am using a Lyons TX-7 and I won another TX-7 on ebay. I can try it both ways next time until I get it figured out.
