Good Morning! I have a 6 month old (black sex link) hen who is either extremely lazy or something is going on with her. I have noticed this past week when I let my flock out to free range she is usually sitting. Pepper eats, drinks, and poops (looks good). She goes to the coop every night and flies up to the roost, so she isn't weak.

I separated her from the rest of the flock 4 days ago. I gave her a warm epsom salt bath and added some mineral oil to her bottom. For the past two days I have given her a Calcium pill mixed in with yogurt. She eats everything I put in front of her.

I appreciate any ideas you guys might have. :)

Has she been laying eggs normally? Have you seen any shell-less eggs in the coop. How does her crop feel first thing in the morning before she eats and drinks?Has she lost weight when you pick her up? Is her lower belly between the legs enlarged?

Since I have separated her, she has not laid an egg. Last week I found a ‘soft’ egg. I don’t know who laid it. Pepper has not lost weight. Her belly doesn’t look/feel enlarged.

How is she feeling now? Can you describe the behavior?

Heres some words that might better help better describe how she’s acting

Lethargic
Depressed
Anti-social
Inactivity
Lack of appetite and/or water

Good Morning! It has been 2 weeks since I wrote. Pepper has bounced back and is now with the flock.

We had kept her isolated from the flock for a week. Her symptoms: She would walk a few steps and sit. She would get up, walk a few steps, and you could see her back end give way. She was eating and drinking the whole time. There were a couple of times we thought we would have to put her down. Like I said above, we gave her Calcium mixed in with yogurt every day for a week.

Thank you for asking.
