I have a mother hen and her 5 chicks, and a golden comet that seems to want to kill her! She runs after her every chance she gets and grabs the back of her neck and won't let go! I could just kill her! Not sure what to do... give her away? build a seperate coop? WHY is she doing that?!?

Some chickens, usually a hen, will seek out to destroy any weaker chicken that is not fully integrated into the flock. These are the ones that make integrating chickens a nightmare for some people. A lot of us do not have those seek and destroy chickens, but they certainly exist. Sounds like you have one.

Other than totally removing her from the flock, which can mean many other things that eating her, you can try isolating the aggressive one totally from the flock for a week or so, then reintroduce her. This will very possibly knock her down so far in the pecking order that she quits being aggressive and spends her energy trying to establish her position in the pecking order.

Personally I'd enjoy a chicken dinner, but that is not the answer for everyone. I do believe those aggressive behaviors can be inherited. Not that every one of her chicks will be that way, but some will probably be more aggressive than normal. I'm quite serious about permanently removing her from the flock. It is not for revenge. I don't want those genes in my flock.
