Need advise on cold weather and missing feathers!

That's great news, daylily. Ha. I thought we were suffering here in GA. It's about 26 degrees out and we're FREEZING and I'll be fretting about my birds staying warm enough (they will). Tomorrow it's predicted to be 60 degrees. We have a saying down here: "If you don't like the weather in GA, wait 45 minutes - it will change". Stay warm!

Okay dadgumit! I'm packing up my birds and dogs ( and the hubbie) and heading to Georgia., or California! I have had it with the cold! It has been worse but these old bones don't want to deal with it any more!

But IF you do, don't complain that that's not how we did it up north. The correct saying is That's a great way to do it, we should have done it that way before. LOL

Free refills on drinks, but we DO NOT go out driving in the snow. it won't last long anyway. many of our cars are ten to twenty years old without rust holes in them!

Don't complain that we don't know how to drive, we know it and it's rude to point out the obvious. we also like a little more "personal" space when driving, walking and living and standing in lines.

and if you Don't like guns, don't buy one. just keep quiet about it. if we don't know we won't hold it against you.

KrisH love your advice!!!!! I am originally from Texas, west Texas. So I know about the clay soil, the wonderful way people like their space in driving and in line, so do I! I would love NOT to drive in snow. I would love not to have a snowplow on the front of my 19 year old Suburban. Matter of fact all my vehicles are 19 years old! LOL (And our Second Amendment Rights are safe with me and mine!!!)

I'm just very grumpy about the below zero weather! But we are moving somewhere with good weather and is a red state! Where people don't ride on your bumper when there is no one else on the road. I want people to wave and say hello or howdy. I want my ice tea and not be thought strange. Just got to fix up the house from dry rot, from no sun ever hitting it, and too much moisture. One whole side of the house with 8 huge windows! A new roof. Damage to the ceilings and walls due to snow weight cracking the roof. A couple of burst pipes, and lots more! I live in the money pit of the north woods!

Also I want a longer growing season. Thanks for letting me have my gripe, I feel better already.

Here's an update on Pavi's condition. She was frowing feathers back but not seems to be going crazy in the coop and bangs her head everywhere, resulting in her have scabs or broken skin over her bony plate aboc\ve her eyes! She can fly fine and has been out three days in a row. Today was a bit chilly so I kept them in only because of the head banging and trying to fly around the coop. She huddles in a corner and acts like she wants to sleep. any advice will be helpful!

That's weird that she would be freaking out now, daylily. Are you sure the other guineas aren't harassing her? Is something frightening her now? She must have been pretty traumatized by your bulldog pup, but you said before she was acting fine before. But now that she has broken skin be careful that the others don't start pecking at the wounds. Blu Kote will cover them and take out the blood/red that seems to attract pecking abuse. Or put her in a large dog crate within sight of the other guineas so they don't ostracize her. As for her sleeping a lot, she may have something else going on internally that you haven't seen.

Peeps will know better what to do...I just parrot what she's said in the past anyway, LOL, and sometimes I get it right - - other times, not so much.

Thanks Jleigh I did that and she seems fine after I fed them. She was just acting so stressed before.

If the others aren't picking on her/acting aggressive towards her then my guess is that she is going stir crazy from being kept in so much. How big is your coop? Are there plenty of roosts she can get up on to get away from the others?

The coop is not huge but adequate for three guineas. Yes they can all roost where they want and have little nooks to get away from one another. I have been letting them out for the past few days to get fresh air and they have been visiting our neighbors again. Her feathers were all ruffed out around as much neck as she can cover where the other s are not. Not even the water was frozen , so it was above 32 degrees in there to keep the ware tom freezing. I may let the others out and leave her in the coop tomorrow if the weather holds and no more snow. Right now the wind chill is around 5 degrees with a very strong wind from the northeast.

It has just been really tough for me to really give all attention to them this weekend and this week. I have an eye DR.s appointment tomorrow to find out why my vision is going from color to black and white or not at all in one eye. Very upsetting and painful. Then my 12 yr. old Japanese Chin got debris blown into his eye on Friday so off to the vet we went and he has a Corneal ulcer in his left eye. so he's on meds and needs so much attention
