I hatched a BLRW two days ago. Cutie that it is, it is having problems walking. It is NOT spraddle legs, and NOT a slipped tendon. It doesn't seem to be able to bend its legs on it its own. If it is on its feet, it is full throttle running across the brooder until it bumps into something/someone else. Its legs will bend if I pick it up and force it into a squat. It wasn't so bad at first, but it got worse over the course of the day yesterday. It is like it is standing/running on its tippy toes and can't or won't bend its legs on its own.

HELP if you know what it is or how to help it.

Oh, and I have a second one looking the same way too but not as bad. Have not seen this before, but guessing it is a result of the incubation process.

Sonew gave me some advice and I have it isolated and in a kleenex box in the bator. I put paper towel on the bottom and some shavings so it can get ahold of the 'floor' with its feet better. And I hobbled its legs. It seems to be calming down and actually squatting down to sleep, so maybe it will be okay. I think it is a pullet too, so I would hate to lose her. I only got 3 out of 14 eggs, so I am really hoping she bounces back and gets to normal right away. I don't think it is spraddle leg, but I am treating it the same. Time will tell. And in the meantime, I have about another 20 eggs to go in that incubator she came out of. Wish me luck!

Oh, and by the way gritsar... aren't you the one with Thor who you wrote about how to tame a naughty roo? I have found your advice to be very beneficial. I have a few boys about 8-months old and feeling their oats who I have to keep in line this spring. My older boys I think know better since they got the boot a few times last fall to find out who the boss is

Even my 9yo daughter knows to keep an eye out and don't take any crap when she goes out - which isn't often lately since I think it is best I be the one to go out among the flock when they are all wanting to procreate and are a bit cocky.
