???? need answers please

I looked on the treat chart and also searched the forum but cannot find anything relating to dates or coconut, I did find some on onions, but I would like clarification on it.

I bought some coconut date rolls and well no one here likes them and was wondering if chickens can eat dates with coconut?

second question is, can they consume onions?? I have 2 large pieces of vegie pizza from last nights dinner, will giving them the pizza that has some diced onions cause them any harm or fowl tasting eggs?

I would throw it out for them - the dates thingy.


I do throw cooked onions out with food - most are not consumed - just pecked around. Have not noticed a change in egg flavor.

Yes, they can have dates and coconut. A small amount of onion wouldn't hurt them.

I have given my chickens leftover pizza, spaghetti sauce, even turkey dressing--all containing cooked onions. Never noticed any off flavors in the eggs, however these are infrequent treats--not everyday treats for the flock.

I'd be more concerned about the amount of sugar in the rolls. I'd probably give them to the chickens but only one or two and freeze the rest.

thank you for the replies....I gave it to them and they loved it. there weren't that many and we have 21 chickens so they shared, not nicely but they shared nonetheless.
