Oven roasting until the florets turn brown makes it sweeter - sometimes I sprinkle with soy sauce or tamari before roasting.
Try topping with a few crushed red pepper flakes if you like spicy.
We eat at Ruby Tuesday's alot and we love their broccoli salad.. We have made it at home and it tastes alot better than theirs.. You use coleslaw dresssing, shredded cheeses, and bacon pieces.. No need to cook the broccoli.. Just give it a good wash and toss all the other ingrediants in
Here is what she does!
One head of broccoli
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
crushed nacho cheese Doritos
Real bacon bits or crumbled bacon
Catalina and Italian dressings to taste, she uses less Catalina then Italian.
Just mix altogether in a bowl!
She said she omitted onions, olives!
It was like a taco salad with broccoli in it!
So add what you like!
A japanese staple is steamed brocolli that is then chilled to keep it sort of crunchy, served as an appetizer with a sort of thousand island dressing. Very good. Another way to serve it would be Brocolli Gomae, gomae meaning a sauce of toasted sesame seeds, some soy sauce and a little sugar. Crush up the sesame seeds and sugar in a mortar and then add the soy sauce, best to use Tamari, a naturally fermented soy sauce that is not as salty tasting... Originally I have had spinach gomae, which is to die for. You can use the gomae sauce over cold (blanched) green beans or asparagus spears. SO GOOD
this sounds awesome. I'm gonna try it. Not having really cooked with sesame seeds too much, would you sort of explain the ratio of seeds/sugar/soy. thanks!

We do this but add finely chopped garlic and panko bread crumbs to it. The kids LOVE it! It's my favorite way to have broccoli.
Alton Brown has a recipe like this on Foodnetwork.com Tyler Forence has a recipe for The Ultimate Stuffed Potato that has broccolli in it and a cheese sauce. Yum!
We like broccoli & tomato salad. Steam or microwave your broccoli & let it cool a bit, then chop up some of those fresh garden tomatoes in it & dress with a little lemon juice, mayo, salt & pepper or seasoned salt to taste. Chill well. It's yummy & cool & tart all at the same time!
