Hi everyone,
This is my second time incubating. First time was an epic fail, no chicks developed, I don’t know if this was due to not being fertilised or my crappy incubator. I have bought a better one now with an auto turner and forced air. Out of the 6 that I put in I have removed 3 that were not fertilised. I was confident in 2 of the 3 that I left in. They are bantam eggs and was told they hatch earlier. I am on day 20, should I be worried?

Thanks in advance to everyone who responds, it have lived on this forum since deciding to own and now hatch chickens. First time posting for myself though.

:welcome bantam eggs do not always hatch early - especially if the incubator was running slightly on the low side.
Thank you. I have 2 thermometers set up inside to monitor it. Think I am just being really impatient. I have a camera set up that I can log on to anytime. Can’t stop checking on them!

My bantams hatch the same time as my others. Trick to a good hatch, in my opinion, is to leave the incubator closed. Seriously. The hatches I've had seem to fare better when I put them into the incubator, put a note on them indicating when I put them in and when I expect them out, then leave them alone; no candling, no handling. The automatic turner handles the turning for me.

They have only been candled once at day 17 to remove any that hadn’t developed other than that the incubator has only been opened to add water. I have a calendar above it with the days numbered and being crossed off each day. I have a 3 year old so this has kept her engaged.

Meet chick 1! Yay!
