Need Chicken Autopsy Help (WARNING: very graphic pictures)

It is a little hard to see exactly what the white things are in the pic; perhaps they are cysts of some kind? If they were from worms I would think you would mostly just find them in the intestines and not all through the body cavity like that.

I agree. I didn't see any worms and we've never had any signs of worms in the flock. I was thinking cancer, but I don't really know.

This is currently my fav chicken disease link, cuz it's got pics http://partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/avian-atlas/

From that site this is the closest pic I found to your little white bumps; http://partnersah.vet.cornell.edu/avian-atlas/search/lesion/445
In this one it is tumors from Merek's disease.

thanks for the link!
The tumors look similar but the picture in the link shows the tumors in the intestine and jejunum. In my chicken, that's about the only place the little tumors weren't present. :)

Sorry for your loss...

I think your hen might have had oviduct cancer and I bet if you had done a cloacal exam you would have been able to feel the bumps, I know I could on a couple of mine that died the same way. Thanks for sharing your experience.

And here I find this very informative not "gross". Next time take heed to warnings. With that being said thank you for taking the time to help teach us who want to learn.

Kathy, thank you and did your chicken that died of oviduct cancer have the little white bumps all over?

coffeychicks, thank you for your kind response. This was hard for us to do and we didn't really know what we were doing, but I'm hoping it will get easier with experience and time.

Thank you for talking the time to do this and show us. I greatly admire your bravery. I'm very sorry your loss and could imagine this was extremely difficult to do.it does look as if she had a type of cancer. I'm no expert but by the tumors I would assume that to be the cause. I'm so sorry again for your loss!! And thank you for sharing with us so we may learn.

I know it is hard. I have done one of my own. I have always been a find out what happened kinda person. And a country girl I can clean my own fish (said with a country drawl) but I dislike heartless comment that are needlessly hurtful. As for "gross" I think the scalding and feather removal is gross the smell gets me everything lol

i do hope you realize that i was not trying to be rude to you. i have never seen an autopsy before and i am sorry for your loss. i did find it very interesting to see as did probably everyone else that looked at your post. most of us are country people, no matter where we live and have all experienced similar problems.i personally like to joke and lighten the mood. of course it was GROSS. i have never seen one that wasn't but that was not a slur to you or what you were doing.
