I need to cut a vent in my coop. It’s a 6x8 “Amish style” coop. I’d like a 6-7’ x 8” vent on the back near the top of the wall. BUT, I have more than a healthy fear of circular saws. I use a jigsaw for everything, but can’t for this as I don’t want to cut through the studs. (Maybe I attach a piece of wood between the saw and the wall that will limit the depth the jigsaw cuts?). Any tips? Is there a non-circular saw that will do this job? I feel like an oscillating saw would take foooorever for this cut.

Have you ever heard of a Versacut? I have that in my arsenal of tools. I love it. It's a little hand held circular saw with a double safety. You not only have to be pushing down on the saw but also depressing the safety trigger. I use it for a lot of jobs. It's very versatile.

It's got a depth lock on the left side that you can see in this image.
Due to it's small size, there is a limit on the thickness of what you can cut but cutting through plywood or siding is a piece of cake.

Would you believe I have one and planned to use it but got it out and the base wobbles. I think there is a washer missing between the blade and the black bolt that has the built in washer. Surely the blade isn’t supposed to wobble around?

Ah! Finally found a video of someone changing the blade and Yep, missing washer. If I can find a new one I’ll use it
