Need EE to lay in nesting box, NOT OUTSIDE!!

My 21 week old EE, Falcon, just layed her 2nd egg in 3 days. small blueish green. I saw her laying in the nesting box looking like she was ready, and sure enough when I came back, the egg was onthe sand floor of her outdoor run.

how do I get her to lay in the nesting boxes in side her coop and not outside on the run floor?

Lock her in there when she's close to laying and keep her in there until she lays. You may have to do this a couple times befoe she gets it. Good luck!

You can try a few things....make sure the nestbox is in a quiet are and maybe a little darker - maybe she did not feel it was a 'private, quiet' enough spot and she did not stay put. Also, wooden eggs have worked like a charm for me. Fordmommy has a good suggestion, keep her confined to the coop until she is done laying .... combination of all these things may work....?

Four or five of my EE pullets are laying. So far only one egg on the poop board, the rest all in the nest boxes. All the girls are real interested in the ones that are laying, and hang out and watch.

I have different size nest boxes in different locations in the coop, I delay letting them out to free range in the AM untill everyone is laying and understands what the nest boxes are for..

I think after today, they all understand,, all the chickens waited in line to check to see what happend to the one in the nest box. Cutest thing we ever did see.

Oh yes a wooden egg or golf ball in the box, and I darken the coop some.

This is coming from a newbie (my 8 chicks are 1 week old)
I get fresh eggs from a friend and once she accidentally threw in her dud, its a fake egg.
I tried as hard as I could to crack it, totally had me fooled!
I was told by someone at the Funky chicken coop tour in Austin (someone from BYC was there) that you could use plastic easter eggs, certainly would be easier to tell the difference.
