I need a gift idea for my brother and step-nephew. They are both adults - My brother is 49 and nephew is 32. I am at a complete loss as to what to do for these 2. They are history buffs and my nephew is in the Reserves and done 2 terms in Afgan. There is nothing either really needs that can be bought and all of their "wants" are way out of my price range. Any ideas for adult men!?!?!

What are your skills/hobbies?

Can you sew? Maybe buy a old soldier costume/coat pattern & make out of old wool blankets bought from a second hand store/garage sale.....they can use in real live if a suitable pattern is used and/or Halloween.......

Do you bake? Homemade goodies are always a hit especially if the type that can frozen for after the holidays when we are not so stuffed full of food..... Any Afgan "treat" that your nephew misses local to that region.....

Quilt/crochet: homemade blanket or throw

Ebay/Pawn Shops: old metals/paraphenalia eg. old books/documents

More info would be helpful....

I am leaning towards the baked goods. They handmake all of their outfits for reenactments and there is no way I could do that for them. I was considering the books - but with the size of their book case - I have no idea what they already have. They are both ebay fanatics and know everything on there :)

What about an Amazon.com gift card, or a favorite bookstore. We do this for DH's BIL because he is a history buff, too. Even if you can't do a $50 gift card (who can?!) a $10 would help them towards a nice book they wanted.

I like the baked goods idea, too. Men always love that! At least the ones in my family! LOL! If you could find a neat basket, or a Military type container that would hold treats, that would be cool.

Good Luck!

How about a card, a hug, and "Merry christmas"
We guys can never get enough of that.

Barring that,

A box of shells for the gun, A pack of drill bits,or A box of nails and a stack of wood so they can come build you a new coop!.

I am the parent of a 19 year old history fanatic, and the gifts he treasures the most are the books. Try a local book store for sale books. My son's favorite is the Civil War book I picked up for $20. He also loves the CIA Code Book, all the foreign war books, especially Germany and Englad. He also has a stamp collection from the different centuries that he treasuers and none of these cost me more than $30.

My DH is a Civil War reenactor. What about a gift certificate to a sutler??? The one my DH likes is the "Regimental Quartermaster". The website is www.regtqm.com. Maybe you'll see something on that site that you may want to get them instead of a gift certificate.

Here is just a thought....go to a flea market...orresale shop...try to find an old..but clean..Ammo can. You know, the long ones that latch tight!? Line it with foil..and fill it with cookies!

Thanks for all of the great ideas! Now I have more things to look for online instead of getting work done
