Need guardian but not LGD.

Thank you for all the replies
1) have greyhounds, male and female - great sight hounds but by nature rarely bark at anything except deer. Their presence has NOT kept fox, opossum or neighbor dogs away.
2) can’t yet afford to fence full 2 acres - still getting $$ together for a Premier One electric chicken fence and charger - so can’t fence llama yet and would need to keep llama away from my greyhounds! (they are fenced) Also not sure 2 acres is enough room for llama or donkey.
3) no problem using a gun except:
Again, no money to buy
Still getting $ together for classes as was not brought up with guns
And yes, I’d have to be home to use it and that is part of the issue ;)
4) guess am going to have to rely on electric fence for just the chicken area (when I get it) and a strong coop until the other options become feasible

I use a combination of the following; cover patches to attract chickens and break line of sight from diurnal raptors, fully adult rooster(s) to challenge same raptors that enter cover patches, perimeter electrified fencing (multiple wires) to obstruct approaching ground predators. electrified poultry netting to confine immature chickens prone to drift away from cover patches and are otherwise more vulnerable to raptors, pens / chicken tractors to contain portion of flock in the event a degree of failure in predator management, and dogs (currently German Pointer and English Shepherd) to make life for predators probing perimeter more spicey. Have a bit more than 23 chickens and do all of my own breeding so actually use close to 6 acres during later half of the production season.

Traps of various sorts and and firearm also part of rotation. And tonight sleeping outside with game cameras deployed to observe how something like fox is getting to steal wild rabbits from nests.

Well I vigilantly secure them in a housing that is pretty close to predator proof while they are still in my front yard but can’t use it on my hills - but I’ve got some good ideas what I want to make.
Also working on getting the initial EPF.
Also signed up for concealed carry class, though getting the $ for my own gun is way down on the budget list.

If you're not doing poultry netting, you can get a charger from Tractor supply, runs about $120 and run 2 strands of low wire around the property fairly cheaply. I have that charger and it keeps my young stallion in place (unless weather takes down the wire, like now, sigh) and nothing wants to touch it twice. It will do for most predators - dip strips of tin foil in bacon grease and put them on the wire to encourage passing beasties to touch it and learn that Wires Are Bad

Good middle of the road idea until I can afford the poultry netting!
