Need hatching buddy! Setting 5 duck and 5 hen eggs Sat 1/16

Well, I have 2 babies and 3 I am still hoping for. Out of 21 eggs I had 5 fully developed chicks in eggs, the rest were either duds or didn't fully develop. I have 3 in the incubator for 1 more day, if I don't see piping then it is over.

I don't know what I did wrong? I kept the temp between 100 and 102 the whole time. Humidity between 50 and 65% till these last few days then I had to add dishes of water to get it higher for the hatch. Then the temp spike (109) I just don't understand it. My hubby says that the heater in the incubator is just like a fish tank heater, unreliable. Well, I will be trying again in march, getting 9 Araucana and 4 Salmon Faverolle. I hope I can get this one right.
Anyway here are the 2 successful hatched chicks.......

well they are super cute. I had a hovabator still air with a wafer and I gotta tell you, I OBSESSED over the temperature, it was SO hard to maintain a consistent temperature with really. I am done for a while as 12 is more than we needed here lol but maybe next year I will upgrade to a digital thermometer and a fan.

Your two babies are adorable. I called it , 1 pipped and died and the other was a fully developed chick but the membrane was REALLY thick, like crazy thick, not normal so I dont know what happened. Poor chilly willy

since I was planning on a 50-60% hatch we have MORE chickies than we needed lol

yay for more chicks!

check out the combs on these chicks! lol
With the exception of the 3 yellow headed chicks, the rest of them ALL look like barred rock males. Is that even possible? You know how barred rock males have the white dot on the backs of their heads. It would be just like me to end up with 9 roosters out of 12.

Well I gave up on my last egg and did an autopsy. It looks like it died around day 15. I was disappointed because this egg was the first

to show veining and movement while candling.

5 set
3 fertile
2 healthy chicks............I am glad I didn't end up with one lonesome chick!

I'm still holding out hope for the BCMs, tomorrow will be when I pitch them. I hope more autopsies will teach me something. I really want lavender orps, don't know if I'll try hatching some though. I'll likely try hatching more of my ee eggs, I know a few families that want ee chicks. 50% rate on home grown eggs prob. isn't something to brag about-guess I'll have to up the # of eggs, if I do.

I'm happy with the 3 chicks, certainly better than my first attempt (0). I don't see defined combs yet but I won't count my.....until they hatch.

Well. I got nothing today. I am afriad to open em up. I think I will just throw them out. So I have 2 out of 21.

I think (based on feathers) they are girls. At least I got that.

it seems all of the chicks i have have defined combs and male feathering. I swear its just like me to hatch 12 roo's.

It has been a pleasure experiencing this with you folks. We have some loss but overall I learned SO much from you.

thanks

Lisa

We lost power yesterday at 4pm, and just got it back. I'm pretty sure I lost them all, as it was in the 50s in the house...no electric, no heat. Thank you for the pictures, at least I get to see some baby chickies...
