When were your chicks due?

I was expecting them last night or tonight...my temp had been a little low... They had been moving around...the one egg had actually turned itself a little bit.

Heritage, I'm sorry about your eggs. I know I had a few things working against me but I'm not sure where specifically things went wrong. We're going to open them to see how far along they got.

Def. learned alot and thank you all for your knowledge, experience, support, humor, etc... it made incubation much less intimidating this time!

It'd be fun to try it again with you all!

See you on BYC!

Oh, did you have any hatch? It can be difficult, I've had humidity issues in the past, I think they were drowning. These guys seemed to be doing fine and were almost there... Things happen. I will be trying again soon, I hope you all will, too. I really do love hatching out the chicks...it's alot of fun!

I had 3 ee's hatch and 1 BCM died while zipping (so close). I had 3 of 19 hatch. Am leaving the bator alone until am so I can autopsy before garbage man comes. I had a few mishaps over the 21 days and 3 of my BCM eggs broke during shipping-prob. too many factors working against them. I'll try hatching more of our ee eggs for others that want them-don't want to keep buying eggs until I feel more confident. You're right, it is fun!

Jimmi, the only way to gain experience is to do it. If you got 3 broken eggs in your shipment, you can be sure the rest of them had the life shaken or slammed out of them. Two times I got a dozen eggs in the mail with alot of broken ones, and ended up with 2 chicks in each one. A friend of mine in another state got the same eggs from the same birds at the same time, and had 100% hatches. I guess the USPS liked him, LOL

Some breeds or some layers have more fragile genetics and don't really do as well shipped.

So don't blame yourself so much. The odds are against a good hatch way before you put them in the bator.

A week into this hatch I put the silkie eggs out under 2 silkies that went broody. 4 eggs, I got 2 chicks! They are so cute, and very light gray, which surprises me because roo is a Partridge. I don't see anything with the other eggs, I think I'll candle them tomorrow.

I think one of my chicks (Jersey Giants) isn't doing to well. She's always sleeping and always has her eyes closed. I don't know what to do.

aw sorry about the baby chick, did you dip its beak in water or electrolytes? You can try hard boiled yolk too.

we had 9 out of 15 hatch. i dont think it was an incubator problem or the power outage. i dont think some of the eggs were fertile. 3 ameraucanas, 5 cubalayas and 1 mix
