If this were an attack dog, cat, raccoon, flying squirrel, goldfish or human there'd be no question about how this gets handled. Why does the rooster get a pass? He's hunting and attacking humans and will only get more bold. Excuse my french, but 'eff him.
Most Roosters I've had have at some point in their development had a period of aggression towards humans. I try hard to not actually hurt them, but the reality is that when a rooster attacks he gets the football treatment. Simply fending them off just makes it a game and they keep coming back. One solid kick to the breast seems to shut them down pretty darned quick. Then I always chase and try to corner them, making lots of noise and grumbling and carrying on. Basically anything I can do to make it a really unpleasant experience for him. Like I said, I try not to actually hurt them but if one were to be injured that's the risk he has taken in attacking a human in my yard.
Almost always, they "grow" out of this phase quickly and lead happy lives. The ones who dont go to freezer camp

My roo tried being fresh with me a time or two and a ride on the end of my foot broke him of it. I do not kick, I push with my foot. KWIM? I feel like if you show fear, then he will become more aggressive with you. Just my 2 cents
