Need Help/Advice - Is This A Disease?

Well it doesn't sound like it's the feed. Rodents in the coop are never good as they do carry disease. If your lab caught one, chances are there are more that need to be evicted.

You could also try worming them as suggested by greenfamilyfarms if they haven't been wormed this spring already.

I would be surprised if it were worms, since it spontaneously resolved.

the symptoms are too vague- what you describe is a sick chicken, but no-one can tell you whether you are looking at a 'disease', infectious or not. Options are as varied as chickens are. Viral, bacterial, environmental toxin, internal or external parasites, trauma, reproductive problem (trying to pass a too big or soft egg ect), environmental temp stress ect. Best you can do is only give the friend thoroughly inspected & normal looking birds, be honest that you had 2 birds look odd- but got better, and advise friend to do a good quarantine of gift birds...
