OK, my hatcher is almost done but DH is having problems with the wiring.
We tryied following the directions given in another post but we are using a different light fixture so if anyone can help out it would be great.

This is what we have:

A double light fixture that has two wires coming out of it. A Black and a White wire. We are using the water heater thermostat with two silver screws markied #1 and #2.

So what do we connect to what ????

Using a gold lamp cord. One side being ribbed.

Thanks so much.

Yep that is what we were gong by but we aren't using the standard lamp sockdet with the gold and silver screw on it. Our light only has a white and black wire coming out of it, no silver or gold screws on the light fixture like her lamp kit has. So I don't know how to wire it to the therrmastat.

Anyone else know how we would hook the black and white wires coming out of the light fixture to the #1 and #2 screws on the thermastat?

Also the directions for wiring in the above link had me a bit confused as to what goes where. anyway, Guess you can tell I'm not an elctriciian !!! LOL:idunno

Black wire equals brass screw, white wire equals silver screw. hope that helps. if not ask again.

Sorry missed second half of your question.
Okay. I am not sure what your cord looks like so I am giving directions as if it is the same as the ones I have done in the past few days. and that the cord (the part that plugs into the wall) dos not have black and white wires but is all one color. If so. one side will have some ribs on it. this is the same as a black wire. the other side will be smooth, this is the same as a white wire. connect these to your light fixture and secure them with wire nuts. Electrical tape is not good at 100 degree temps so if that is all you have use lots of it.

Now the Thermostat goes in the Black wire only. so pull the wire from the lamp to where the thermostat will be leaving it a little loose so connections are not being pulled on. cut the black/ ribbed side of the cord at the point it reaches the thermostat. remember you need an extra inch or so of wire. strip about half an inch of the insulation from both sides of this cut and connect them to the thermostat. the wire going from the plug goes to 1 and the wire going to the lamp goes to 2.
let me know if you need any more help.

Edit: you cannot be shocked by the thermostat if it is wired with only the black wire. you will only get shocked if you touch the black and white wires at the same time. remember this when wiring the lamp and make sure those bare wires cannot touch each other.

If the ribbed wire is what I think it is that is the live wire and needs to be attached to the thermostat, although it shouldn't make a difference as normal incandescent light bulbs will work with the wires either way round.
I also would expect that screw 1 should have the live wire going to it from the supply and screw 2 then has the live wire to the light and the neutral wire also goes to the supply, the thermostat is only acting as the switch for turning the light on and off.

I was wrong!!! (first time this year !!!

) I don't know what I am doing !!

It isn't turning off !!!

So this is what we did. Please chime in and tell me what we did wrong please.

1) We took the ribbed wire from electrical cord (plug on other end) and wired in on the the screw marked #1 the thermostat.
2) Then we took a piece of ribbed wire and wired in to the screw marked #2 on the thermostat.
3) Then we took the other end of wire in step (2) and connected it to the black wire on the light fixture.
4) Then we took the smooth wire on the electrial cord (plug on other end) and connected it to the white wire on the light fixture.

Plugged it in and the light works fine but it doesn't turn off even when I set the thermostat to 90 degrees.
At first we used two 15 watt bulbs like another member used in his tubabator. It would only reach 84 degrees after being left on all night. So I replaced one 15 watt bulb with a 30 watt that I happened to have.
So I let it go for a while and when I went to check it the temp at the bottom of the tub was 115 degrees and the light was still on. I have it set to the lowest the thermostat will go which is 90 degrees.

So I thought maybe the connections were backwards on the thermostat so I switched them putting the ribbed wire on screw #2 and from the #1 screw it went to the light fixture.
Nothing changed !!!

NOW WHAT???? HELP !!!

Just an update, I figured it out!!! I wasn't wrong !!! Hubby was!!! He put the metal disc in upside down!!

First I took the back off of the thermostat and flipped the disc. Then I put the wires back on the correct screws on the thermostat.
Bingo-It's shutting on and off but now I have to play around with it because it either is under heating or over heating !!! ARRRGGHHH!!
Kind of like watching paint dry watching that thermometer !!! LOL
