I would soak her in a warm epsom salts bath, this can help reduce some of the swelling. A prolapse will usually not stay in until the swelling has gone down, this is why you need to keep the exposed tissue moist with your hemorrhoid cream. I would wait a while before attempting to push the prolapse back in.She's actually is eliminating waste. But it just gets stuck right on the red thing. She's drinking water as I have seen. I have been giving her butt baths with dawn soap and gently pushing in the vent. After I put some hemorrhoid cream on the vent area. But the vent keeps popping back out. Also the only day open for vets are Wednesday.
Is this the worst chick you have seen?
Is this chick in very bad condition and in pain?
And are all chickens who have this problem hens/pullets?
Thanks so so much
Much love from me and my chick
Kaylie
If she is laying down with her head tucked in the corner, she is not doing too well, imho. She is likely exhausted and in pain.
Both males and females can have a prolapsed vent. With a chick this young, it's likely due to constipation/dehydration or it could be a genetic/developmental disorder.
