So I found an ad on craigslist from a woman who had a chicken wander into her yard. She didn't know how to care for it, so she wanted someone with chickens to come get it.
I have a small flock, and was eager to add to it, so i went out to get this hen.
She was broody, sitting on a clutch -- although she snapped at me -- she was pretty easy to grab and put in a box.
When I got home, I opened the box and she flew off! I'd never even seen a chicken fly like she did!
I chased her for hours, but never caught her.
Now she has set up camp in a neighbor's yard -- and that neighbor is not very happy.
I've gone to try to catch her a number of times -- with my box, with long poles, with help from friends.
We just can't get her.
She runs and flies and evades us completely.
Please advise. How do I catch this wayward chicken?
Thank you.

Yeah, someone needs to watch her as it gets late and see where she goes to roost. Wait till it is as dark as possible and then get her. May need a ladder or someone that can climb a tree.

We are sooooo redneck at my house!

We have a dog crate we leave set up and feed the chickens out of it for a few days. then we attach a string to the crate door and just wait for them to go in to eat and pull the door shut with the string. We have been able to catch the ones we want in just an evening around feeding time. I am not brave enough to walk up and grab one, so it works well when we are rehoming teenage roos.

Are you feeding her. Maybe you can entice her with some treats. I have used a fish net with a long handle.

If you can't catch this babe at night, you might have to corner her. When a chicken is running in front of you, you can guide them by using your arms. If you raise your left arm (straight out to the side), they will dodge right and if you raise your right arm, they will dodge left. This way, you have them busy watching your arms and dodging, and not looking where they are going. If you can corner her against a high wall, then just go in for the big catch. You simply have to overpower with the rush.
