I have a chicken that is sitting on ten eggs, she is a good momma:) The nesting box she is in is about 3' off the ground and not big enough to hatch ten chicks in. I tried the other day to move her into a penned off area in the coop but she would not get back on the eggs. It was an hour and finally I moved her back and she has been sitting on them. I am afraid the chicks will fall out and the other chickens will get them. If I move her will she sit on the eggs now that a chick hatched? Is it because I moved her in the daytime? If I move her at night will that help? I just don't want to move her if she will not sit on the eggs and chick.. Any Suggestions?

I would have moved her during the first week of sitting. I would not move her off the eggs during hatching. They will need to be moved however. Chicks will fall out and die. I would wait until hatching is done and then move them at night.

Thank you, I will wait a few more days and then move her. The last thing I want is a chick to get hurt. I think the eggs should all hatch in the next day or so. Then I will move her into the penned area. This is my first go around with a hen hatching eggs, usually I do it in the incubator:) Thanks again.
