Need help choosing between these hens

We liveout west and have four seasons. These will be raised for eggs. Have children so looking for hardiness and friendliness. Has anyone ever had the cross hens mentioned in my OP? Thanks for the replies.

Not that I have had any but I have been reading so much here I have learned so much. It is like chicken college.

The cross you mention sounds like a sex link perhaps. They have a reputation for being great layers but with some leghorn in them they could be what is termed "flighty" or not so docile.

I totally agree. Get a mix. I love looking out and seeing the color variety. All of those breeds seem great. I have a BO, BR , EE and a light Brahma. Love the Light Brahma. She lays almost every day and is very friendly. The EE is worth it for the green/ blue eggs!

Mix 'em up! They'd all be good. But make sure you take good care of the Rhode Island Reds in winter, just make sure their wattles and combs don't freeze. I have two Rhodie hens and one rooster. They are awesome layers and they are so sweet. Roosters are normally aggressive though, I got lucky, mine is very gentle. But the hens are great, they are much more friendly than my Silver Laced Wyandotte hens.

There seem to be a lot of problems with hatchery RIR being mean, even the hens. Other than that, I say get what you want and enjoy! They will all be different in personality just as much as color and such.

Not sure I'd want a RIR/Leghorn cross, myself. Both are bred heavily for laying so egg problems I would think would be even more likely. One is a dual purpose and one an egg breed. Not sure why you'd want to mix them.
