Any ideas would be helpful. I plan on attaching the 2 cabinets back to back and elevating them off the ground. This will make a 3ft x 3ft coop. Two doors open for easy clean out on the back and other side 1/2 door for exit into an already existing pen. I plan on a slanted roof with vents and wiring inside second front door for more ventilation Has anybody done this? Pictures? ideas? pitfalls

You are going to put 3 roosters in there? Are they bantams?

No they are full size but the coop will be attached to an 10ft by 4ft pen that will be plastic wrapped in the winter. I have never done a bachelor coop before . Is this too small?
What breeds and how old are they now?

3X3 only gives your 9sq ft. For 3 large fowl roosters, I would aim for 4sqft coop space for each of them. That would be a min. of 12sq ft. which I personally think would be pretty close quarters.
10X4 will probably be fine, but I would give them more room for their "coop".

Do they get along really well?

The boys are still with the pullets and are only 4 months old. They are Mottled Javas.

Maybe I'll hang onto the cabinet conversion idea for a broody hen and chicks.
It would make a great broody hutch! :thumbsup

I've never had them but Mottled Javas will likely be pretty big boys comparable to the large fowl I have had. Even if mild tempered and they are agreeable with one another, they need a some room to move around.

I like the cabinet idea for a coop, I’d make it anyways whether used for the roosters or a broody hen or for future pullets etc.

My though process for space involves available protected run space - so if your pen/run has a roof then I definitely think the 3x3 is plenty of space. None of my chickens/roosters ever hang out inside the coop aside from sleeping unless the run is roofless. This coop doesn’t need nesting boxes so it’s pretty much just pure roosting space.

Simpler is a good idea. I’d probably make a simple wood frame that fixes to the exterior sides of the cabinets - has legs underneath to elevate with a few joists to support the cabinets; supports go up past the top of cabinet walls to to provide ventilation under the roof. You’ll have to remove the cabinet backs obviously and perhaps a decent section of the cabinet tops(for venting) but leave the floor to contain bedding/sand/removable tray etc. if you don’t think the doubled cabinets are enough room inside, add a width of plywood between them on walls and floor to expand it, similar to a table leaf extension.
